Making a book

How to make a personalized storybook from a photo

A practical guide for adults: choose a photo, plan a child or pet adventure, review the illustrations, and finish a digital storybook in Taleyo.

A recognizable face is a starting point, not the whole story. A personal book also needs a small goal, a setting the reader will enjoy, and details that belong to its hero. Here is a practical way to take a child or pet photo through Taleyo's illustrated-book workflow without treating the first AI result as the finished book.

Start with one small adventure

Before uploading anything, write one sentence about what the hero wants to do. Finding a missing picnic basket is easier to follow than saving a kingdom, winning a race, and visiting the moon in the same short book. Choose a setting that gives the character something to notice and a reason to keep moving.

For example, a fictional child who loves puddles could help a woodland friend find a dry place for a picnic. A pet who always carries a toy could bring that familiar habit into a small imaginary quest. These are planning examples, not promises about a particular generated result.

Choose a photo you are authorized to use

Use a clear reference with the intended character easy to distinguish. Avoid group photos, heavy filters, or objects covering the face. For a pet, check that the markings you care about are visible. A reference helps guide an illustration; it does not guarantee an exact likeness.

Taleyo is operated by adults aged 18 and over. Only upload photos you have the right and permission to use. Leave addresses, school names, documents, and other unnecessary identifying details out of both the image and your written description. Review the current privacy notice before uploading.

Review the character before the whole book

Choose a story and an illustration style, then inspect the character preview. Look at the features you want to recognize throughout the adventure, such as hair, glasses, or a pet's coat pattern. Decide whether the illustration feels right for this book before moving on.

If you need another generated version, check the credit cost shown in the app first. Keep feedback focused on the most important visible difference instead of changing the character, setting, and style all at once.

Read the complete story before downloading

Read the text aloud and look at each illustration beside its page. Check the spelling of the hero's name, the order of events, and whether the ending resolves the original small goal. AI output can contain mistakes; your review is part of making the book personal.

Taleyo produces a digital PDF, not a shipped physical book. Editing and downloads are free according to the current pricing page; AI generation uses credits. Make the final changes, download the PDF, and open it on the device you intend to use for reading together.

  • Confirm the correct hero and name on the cover and inside the story.
  • Check for confusing text, mismatched pictures, or details you would not want to share.
  • Keep a copy of the final PDF somewhere you can find again.
